Laurie! Sorry you are having so many issues. I had borderline high cholesterol also and I eat pretty healthy. So I went raw and vegan and it dropped 30 whopping points! Anyways, not raw anymore but I hardly ever eat meat anymore to keep my cholesterol low. I do know cholesterol is one thing we can control with diet unlike sucky RA that seems to control us!
Hey! Unfortunately, the thing is, I never eat meat at home, and hardly ever eat it out. So that's that. I drink 1% milk, hardly ever have butter on things (only when I eat out), have steel-cut oats for brekkie every day (with added ground flaxseed tossed in for good measure, I might add), eat lots o' fish, eat fruit, only 100% whole wheat bread, only put salt on eggs, could eat more veggies, true...
The one thing I can cut down on is sweets. Not sure that's really relevant in this case, but, hey, I'm sure the sweet thing will rear its ugly head in some way some day the way things are going.
What it comes down to, I think: my dad has high cholesterol. Bummer.
Bleugh.. I've just read up on this because 'cholesterol' is one of these things you hear all the time but never really know what it is.
It sounds like there's plenty that can be done about it at least!
It sounds like you have a pretty awesome diet anyway, so maybe you need to go on a med for it. Which I can understand is upsetting cos it's one more pill to add to the arsenal. But I remember reading that the high cholesterol meds can potentially help a bit with RA. Here's one article I found on it: http://medind.nic.in/jaa/t05/i2/jaat05i2p54.pdf
Hope you're keeping your chin up despite all this bad news lately. I know things will turn around soon.x

It's important to realize that my experiences with rheumatoid arthritis are unique to me. Each person experiences this disease in his/her own way, with unique symptoms and reactions to medications. Good luck on your journey.

ReplyDeleteHugs and prayers girl!
I can completely relate. Is high cholesterol part of the total RA package? What else do we get?!

I said some swear words when I read this, Laurie. I'm sorry. I hate the feeling of not knowing of being able to trust your own body.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, at least, that your doctor is on top of this now.
Haha, Helen! You made me laugh with that! Thank you soooo much for saying swear words for me – I greatly, greatly appreciate the emotion behind that!
