A Revised Migraine Plan

Soooooo. After three migraines in three days, I realize I need to rethink my plan to cut back totally on one of my migraine meds.

I'd originally been taking five 25 mg tablets of Topamax each day, and slowly, very slowly, over months, I've managed to cut that back to one 25 mg tablet each day. And all was going well. Surprisingly well. Supremely well. Happy-making well.

Until this past week, that is, when I cut out 3 days worth of those tablets (on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). That wasn't unusual per se; it's the sort of schedule I've used all along to get down to the one pill/day. But this time, my body said, "NOOOOOOOOO!" loudly and clearly, and the migraines started.

Needless to say, I'll start back on that one pill every day schedule again...

Sigh, but, hey, whatever really. It's better than five.

  1. So sorry to read about this. One of my motorcycle buddies has severe migraines, I know how bad they can be. I hope you get lined back out quickly.

  2. So glad you're back posting again! And absolutely delighted to hear that you're doing so well (once you get the migraines tamed again). The fact that you've been able to cut back on the meds is wonderful (even if you may have temporarily cut back a bit too much).

  3. Your sister candy, told me about your blog and said i should read it.
My name is joanne pauley, I have had rheumatoid for 27 years. Was diagnosed at 30 years of age but it started years before that. My docs tell me I was diagnosed 10 years to early so i have had a lot of damage. also having been on toxic drugs and adjusting my immune system for so long. i have had serious side affects. But I am also on Infusions now of Rituxen. And it is working well so far. But all the meds have stopped working for me after time.
But I have years sometimes of really good health and i am in one now. i go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. and am feeling stronger than i have in quite a while.
I will continue to read your blog, and thanks for doing it...I am sure you are helping others by writing of your journey.

  4. Hi there!

    Thanks for the comments.

Tharr, Staying on the minimal dose seems to be doing the trick keeping the migraines at bay, so yay!

Carla, Thank you so much! I'm glad to be back (and doing well, of course!). Not sure how much I'll be posting, but will try to do something every once in a while! Take care of yourself!

Joanne, Welcome! Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had, but I'm glad the Rituxen seems to be doing well and I hope that that continues!

    Cheers,

    :) L
